The Godwin

ReplyI deleted the Hitler reference. I am aware that it is racist pseudoscience but from this excerpt it really doesn’t sound like the author deserves the Godwin: if the author does you should do it in a new post.
On eugenics, a series could be interesting. Ultimately we want to discuss genetic engineering and the various attitudes people have towards it.
The line in contention:
No one truly saw the Holocaust coming.
Kevin, the line you deleted is a direct quote from the book, page 194 (photocopy below). It continues to baffle me why Gina dedicated 10% of a book on genomics, the study of a biochemical string of nucleic acids only recognized in the 1950’s and sequenced in 2003, about how bad Hitler was because she felt otherwise would be “irresponsible.” Again, about 80% of “The Genomics Age” was good. The other 20% was norcal dilettante posturing. Protip: Hitler died 1945. Not every hypothetical, vaguely unsettling social condition that you may not like is exactly murdering millions of people in worldwide total warfare during World War 2. Why do people feel entitled to intellectual accolades for this nonsense? I guess it’s just the new theology.
Andrew’s Rating for The Genomic’s Age: 4 out of 5 stars (+0.5 star because I forgive the religious)
