Announcing The Navigenics and Think Gene Partnership!
Via submarine at Genome Web today, Navigenics reports that it is now providing its genomic testing service through the “MDVIP network” of physicians. It’s unclear to me why it is news when a service that is freely available to the general public continues to be freely available to various segments of that general public (and I notice Genome Web distances itself by naming “a GenomeWeb staff reporter” in the byline)… but here’s the story:
NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Navigenics will provide its genomic testing service through a network of physicians in order to help their patients learn about their potential genetic risks for certain diseases, Navigenics said today.
Under the agreement, Navigenics will provide its services to doctors in the MDVIP network, which is spread across 25 states and Washington, DC. These physicians practice preventive, proactive, and personalized healthcare, the company said.

Oh… I get it! This makes it look like doctors are ordering Navigenics tests for patients in clever marketing scheme to make it look like Navigenics is medically actionable without ever accepting responsibility by making a medically actionable statement! This, plus that using Navigenics to provide medical advice or actionable counseling is a clear violation of Navigenic’s Terms and Conditions, makes it unclear to me just how the VIP doctors of VIPMD plan to promote Navigenic’s test in the best interest of their patients.
